CAN I OWN LAND IN MEXICO?
Mexico has specific requirements for property ownership by foreigners near its borders and beaches. Foreign ownership is accomplished through a bank trust. As the buyer, you are the sole beneficiary of that trust. The trust exists for a period of fifty years at which time you can renew the trust for an additional fifty years and so on in perpetuity. You will own the rights to the property you have purchased through the bank and title insurance can be issued on each property.
CAN MY FAMILY INHERIT MY PROPERTY?
Property in Mexico can be inherited. There is no inheritance tax and no probate as long as you have a will. If you name a substitute beneficiary in the trust, the rights to the property will pass directly to your heir in the case of death or incapacity.
